How to bet?

Wagering in Big 5 Blackjack is accomplished by using the chips on the side of the table. Chip values includes 1.00, 5.00, 10.00 and 25.00. The minimum table bet accepted in Big 5 Blackjack is 1.00 per hand. At its most expensive, the table game can cost you up to 200.00 per hand. To begin betting, place your chosen chip (or chips) into the Ante bet square on the table, and hit deal.

How to play?

Two cards will be dealt to the player (both face up), and one will be dealt to the dealer (also face up). The player must then decide if they wish to surrender or not. If they choose not to, the blackjack game then continues, with options to hit, stand, or double-down available; or on occasion, additional options will also be present.

Some of those additional options include placing an insurance bet, splitting the cards (if they are of the same value), and re-splitting, which can be done no more than twice. Players can also double-down after splitting aces, although they cannot re-split aces. The surrender option is not available in Big 5 Blackjack, if the dealer’s face up card is an ace. Also, after splitting, an ace and a ten will only have the value of 21, not blackjack itself.

With your decision made, the dealer will receive an additional card (or cards), and if no players are busted, the hands will be compared and the winner declared.

Pay-outs

Big 5 Blackjack will see players pocket the standard 3:2 pay-out for Big 5 Blackjack. They will also be able to pocket 2:1 wins on insurance bets. In this blackjack game, the dealer must always stand on hard 17s.

Tips and Tricks

Although having a late surrender option is often advantageous to players, they must remember that if the dealer has an ace, then the option is not offered. This is critical for players hoping to play Big 5 Blackjack for this rule, as they may end up disappointed if it doesn’t materialise.

Overall Experience & Final Thoughts

Big 5 Blackjack is played with five decks of cards, is based on European Blackjack, and the only real difference between Big 5 Blackjack and that blackjack game is the inclusion of the surrender rule. Big 5 Blackjack is not one of the most famous blackjack variants, and Microgaming are the only developers to have really experimented with this game. Players can expect a house edge of 0.47%, which is marginally higher than other blackjack games, though the successful execution of the surrender rule may lower the edge, potentially making this game appealing to many online blackjack lovers.
