It is a case of more of the same, with Vikings Go Berzerk
Yggdrasil’s Vikings Go Wild video slot is one of the most entertaining games ever to be released from the Swedish online casino software developer. Who better to create a 3D Viking themed slot than Scandinavians?
Given the huge amount of success Yggdrasil has had with that title, it seems only fitting that they should try their hand at the genre once more, this time with a popular sequel: Vikings Go Berzerk.
The new Vikings Go Berzerk will instantly excite any player who loves the original game. The news that Yggdrasil is creating a sequel alone is enough to cause a frenzy. We had our reservations, though.
There are several ways Yggdrasil could have taken this slot. Our preference would have been for the company to take the slot in a new direction. They haven’t. Instead, the Vikings Go Berzerk slot is simply a case of more of the same.
What we love
If you are a fan of the first game, then in all probability, you’re going to be fairly over the moon that many of the same features are back. You can expect Vikings to do battle with a sea monster in the free spins bonus, which may or may not see them become sticky wilds, depending on the outcome of the fight.
There are also two ways to trigger the bonus round, and that is always nice. Players can trigger the feature either by filling up a Rage Meter (achieved by landing Viking symbols on the reels), or by landing enough scatters on the reels to bag a bonus. Players can also enjoy wild symbols galore in this game, just like in its predecessor.
What we do not like
All the features we have mentioned above are certainly nice. We’re not holding anything against Yggdrasil for coming up with such winning bonuses. However, we must admit that we’re kind of bored by them. We’ve seen them all before.
What Yggdrasil have done in this slot is simply include all the features that we are already well familiar with from the first game. They haven’t taken any risks to create something new, or to pep up the series a bit with this new release. Thus, Vikings Go Berzerk is basically Vikings Go Wild 2.0.
Yes and no. By now you’ve probably figured out where we stand on this game. If you happen to be a die-hard fan of the first game (and rightly so, since it was a peach), then there is a reasonably good chance that you’re going to find Vikings Go Berzerk a very playable game.
Alternatively, the same is true if you have never played the first slot in the series. It is also mobile friendly, which is always going to appeal to gamers on the go.
However, if you have played the first game to death and were hoping for a bit of a change of scene, you’re out of luck. This slot is just a prettier rehash of the first game, albeit with better graphics.
