Sailing to your screens this month is IGT’s new Chinese themed slot
Have you ever heard of Zheng He? He was one of fifteenth century China’s greatest explorers and navigators. He sailed the seas around the region, discovering new lands, and pushing Chinese civilisation to new frontiers.
IGT has developed quite a lot of Chinese themed slots of late, and we can’t say that all of them have been winners. Some will quietly fall by the wayside, and some are worthy of mention (but not here).
Where does the new 1421: Voyages of Zheng He fall? To be honest, right in the middle. This is a slot with an interesting theme, decent features, but poor graphics. You can’t always get what you want, but this slot delivers in most areas.
What we love
IGT’s 1421: Voyages of Zheng He slot contains a nifty wagering range, and that is pretty new for IGT. They usually favour far more rigid wagering menus, but this one will allow you to alter both the lines and your bets, and without a silly side-bet feature, too.
There are 88 lines and you can play with 8 or 88 of them, giving the slot flexible $0.08 and $88, minimum and maximum wagers, respectively.
The free spins bonus is also pretty spiffy. Once triggered via scatters, players can select one of three features. They can opt to play with up to 20 free spins although smaller multipliers or they can opt to play with fewer free spins and bag multipliers which range up to 8x multipliers.
Another option is to dodge the free spins bonus entirely, and play an instant win feature instead. This offers you up to 102x your total bet, if you can guess under which cup a golden ball is hiding.
What we do not like
Truth be told, we’re not avid fans of the graphics in this game. Even though this is a sailing and navigation-themed video slot, most of the imagery doesn’t play along with that. You will find that it is largely the same stereotypical Chinese imagery you will find in most games in this genre.
Another downside is that the imagery in the game is also of a standard quality. IGT have made a lot of headway of late with their imagery, incorporated 3D graphics in their games. They have taken a step back with this release, which is a little bit disappointing.
For the most part, the 1421: Voyages of Zheng He slot is very playable. It has cool enough features, and it offers flexibility where most IGT developed slots do not. However, we are a tad concerned about the graphics.
Graphics aren’t everything, but we think we have a right to expect more from IGT given their releases of late. This slot was released a few months ago, so you should be able to find it at all good casinos offering software from this casino giant.
