Theme of The Game
Wonder Hounds continues a tradition that has been used by a lot of developers so far, that of turning animals into main characters in stories, making them dress and behave as humans, rather than animals.
Wonder Hounds introduces three dogs that would be used for hunting normally, it gives them names, dresses them up and uses them in the main roles. It’s a game of British inspiration, not just because of the hunting dogs, but there are also tiny British flags used for certain symbols. Once you see it, I think that you will agree that the quality of the design is very good.
The characters that are in main roles are called Ace, Jinse and Winchester. The paytable also lists symbols with the Wild Logo, a Paw Scatter, plus bowls with dog food, bone shaped pendants and the five playing cards, each one of a different color and with a paw print next to it.
Wonder Hounds will wet your appetites, and chances are that you will want to see more from NextGen Gaming. Several of their slot machines, titles like Jade Idol, Merlins Magic Respins or Doubleplay Super Bet will give you a wide variety of themes to try out, along with different types of actions and features.
I don’t consider them great designers, there are others that do a lot better, but usually I end up enjoying their games, so they’re not bad either.
How to Play It
Using the plus and minus buttons placed at the top and bottom of the Spin button, you can place a bet of $0.25 to $250 for each round of Wonder Hounds. You might’ve guessed already, that the game uses 25 fixed lines, which explains the wager’s range. Each line receives $0.01 to $10, depending on the total bet value.
Most of the options that you have access to will be grouped around the Spin button, so they’re easy to change when needed. The various displays are at the bottom, on a very narrow black line.

The wild symbol is a dedicated feature in most games, and in Wonder Hounds it is also a result of a random occurrence. At any time, as you play the game, you may notice that one of the three Wonder Hound symbols is transformed into a wild. At that point, you will be able to use it in a newly formed combination, if there are matching symbols present on its line.
The Wild may occur on its own as well, as a symbol with its own logo, colored in gold against a purple background. Wild symbols do the substitution for others, but they also pay you if they get a chance.
Paw Print scatters are even better in this game, mostly because they’re the ones paying the largest amount, while also giving you free spins.
8 to 15 free spins can be triggered, where at the start you will get 1 to 15 wild symbols at random. The wilds that appear at the start are held for the rest of the free spins. You can’t retrigger free spins, though with so many potential locked wilds, it was to be expected.
Wonder Hounds pays best when the scatter symbols get involved, so with five of those visible you can win $25,000. The RTP is lower than I’d like, NextGen announcing it at 95.16%.
Wonder Hounds can turn into a very profitable game, despite the low payouts that individual combinations are offering. The free spins is where the biggest potential is.
