Theme of The Game
The Phantom of the Opera is a slot machine from NetEnt, with origins that aren’t quite clear. It could be coming from the original book with this name, which was written by Gaston Leroux, or it could be inspired by the musical or by the movie that came out based on it.
They were all quite popular, and they all revolve their action around this beautiful singer and a disfigured man that lives underneath the Opera where she performs.
You will find a good amount of themed symbols inside, with things that are mentioned in the play or which seem appropriate. There are daggers, gold rings, yellow roses, a mirror, the two main characters (Phantom and Christine), as well as four card suits. While it’s a decent looking game, it doesn’t come close to the usual high quality standard that NetEnt has gotten us used to.
Developer
This is one of the slot machines that NetEnt has put out, and for me it is one of the average looking ones, even though if it was in another developer’s collection it might’ve been considered great. NetEnt has that kind of high quality slot collection though, that will get players used to try out every single game they put out.
How To Play It
You will be playing with 40 lines active all the time, but you seem to be required to use a wager on just 20 of them. You start the bet from a minimum of 20 coins, and by increasing the bet level you can take the amount up to 200 coins.
The coin value comes next, and it allows you to spend as little as $0.20 if you want to. If you want so wager a couple of hundred dollars per spin, it is a possibility as well.
This is the usual NetEnt betting system and interface, so you will not find anything unusual here. You set the wager, you click on Spin, and that’s it. The features might take a bit more time to understand, since they’re not standard ones, but you don’t need to know how they work in order to play the slot.

Special Features
Among the features that The Phantom of the Opera gives us, the wild is certainly a major one to take into consideration. It will not be used in combination with bonus or scatter symbols, but with all others it can act as a replacement and get you a new combo.
The Mask is the image that was picked to represent the wild. There are also stacked Mask wilds, along with the Masked Phantom, the Stacked Phantom and Stacked Christine, all of them capable of being used as wilds under certain circumstances.
In the main game, you will be able to land stacked bonus symbols on the reels 1 and 5. These stacked bonus symbols are wilds as well, so you use them to do two different things for you.
To trigger a Pick and Click feature, you will need a Stacked Phantom to cover the entire 1st reel, while Stacked Christine is on reel 5. You pick from 8 roses in the first level, and from 3 mirrors in level two.
As for the more regular scatters, those are used on the 1st, 3rd or 5th reels. You get a bit of a bonus game here as well, with the free spins continuing for as long as a chandelier’s five ropes are not all cut.
Maximum Payouts
Payouts that get up to 200x are mentioned by the paytable, so you can expect about 2,000 coins out of it.
Summary
It looks like the usual high quality design from NetEnt, especially if you care about features the most. Graphics wise, they’ve had better releases so far.
