Space Lights is a futuristic themed video slot and one which has been designed and developed by Playson. The slot machine offers very abstract and science fiction themed graphics.
Whilst that might sound like a rather catchy thing, when you start spinning the reels of this slot, you will realise that Space Lights is as basic as they come.
More worryingly than that is the fact that the Space Lights slot tends to make your system work hard if it is even remotely old. If you have a phone, tablet or computer which isn’t up to scratch, you might find that it exerts itself trying to run the graphics in the game.
This can lead to choppy, and sometimes frustrating gameplay. Even if you have a system which can run Space Lights smoothly, you may still not fall in love with the game. As far as themes go, this one is dull, and a far cry from the type of stuff we usually see from Playson.
Whilst the developers aren’t known for being overly original with their slot themes, this one might as well be any other slot from any other developer.
It doesn’t really contain any of the hallmarks of a good Playson slot, and that is also a worry. You can’t help but think that the developers of this game have produced a mediocre slot just for the sake of adding one more game to their library.
How to play it
Below the reels is a very basic wagering menu. It can see you alter your total bet, spin the reels, or choose a maximum stake. It does little else. You cannot alter any of the slot’s paltry 15 paylines, for instance.
What you can do is use the up and down buttons to choose a wager which ranges from $0.15 per spin, up to a maximum of $3,000 per spin. Not to be funny, but no player in their right mind is going to way three grand on this slot. This makes the max bet button as redundant as the absent payline or coin value buttons.
How much can you win?
A good spell on this slot can see you win as much as 60,000 credits. That’s the only real perk of this slot. The non-progressive jackpot is sizeable, and it will be paid out if you can land 5 of the wild symbols on any payline in the game.
Given that there is a lack of them in the slot in the first place, you shouldn’t get your hopes up. Playson – it seems – could afford to be generous with the non-progressive jackpot, since you’ve got little hope of landing it.

Wild symbols: There are two types of wild symbols in the Space Lights slot. First up, there is the regular wild. It won’t come as a surprise to learn that they can substitute for all other symbols in this slot machine game.
Space Light: The second type of wild symbols are the sticky wilds. As their name suggest, when they appear on the reels, they can remain in place for the next spin. Sticky wilds only appear when a portal appears above the reels, and the symbols on the top of that reel appear in a winning combination.
They will then transform into sticky wilds. This is known as Space Light. A re-spin will be triggered in which you can use your sticky wilds. The Space Light re-spins (and sticky wilds) only end when no more sticky wilds appear on the reels.
Bonus prizes: The only other feature in this slot is the Bonus Prize feature. When players land an active reel filled with sticky wild symbols, a bonus prize is paid out to the player.
That bonus prize is calculated by the value of the counter, multiplied by a random bonus prize multiplier (either 2x or 3x), multiplied by your total bet. This is an overly complex procedure, and surely a simple instant win cash prize bonus would have been better?
Overall experience and final thoughts
We don’t like this slot. We’re trying not to be biased but one cannot help it. The slot has elements of other games (hello Starburst), but it’s not as good as either of those slots it tries to duplicate. Its prize is decent, but you are light-years away from bagging it.
The maximum wager is set at a ridiculously high rate, and the features are mundane and devoid of excitement. Our guess is that we won’t be hearing too much of Space Lights in the future.
