It’s easy to forget that humans weren’t the only rulers of this world. Today, to find a place that’s entirely unmarred by human touch is rare, but there was a time period where humans were little more than scared animals, fleeing before those larger and mightier than they are.
Back then, our worries were to find enough food to feed ourselves, stave off predators and just survive in a hostile world. Such a world comes back to life in Blueprint Gaming’s latest release, titled Primal Megaways, which has you facing off against several of these long extinct animals.
There’s only one special feature, which are free spins with added multipliers, and a potential to be retriggered several times. Symbols include playing card icons 10, J, Q, K and A, done in primitive, cave-man like paintings, and animals like rhinos, sabretooth tigers, warthogs, goats, wolves and woolly mammoths. A paw print is a Wild symbol, while an armoured woolly mammoth is the game’s Scatter, which is used to activate its bonus.
Developer
While we aren’t exactly sure when Blueprint Gaming was founded, they’ve been around for a while now. The studio is based in the UK, and have over 100,000 land based gaming terminals in Germany, Italy and the UK.
Blueprint built its fortune on the back of third party brands, which created familiar slots for players, and that success allowed the developers to build their own, unique titles, as well. In 2008, Blueprint Gaming was acquired by German gambling conglomerate, the Gauselmann group. Their titles alternate between more simpler, easy to play games, and more complicated titles with many bonuses that can be difficult to keep track of – though Primal Megaways certainly falls into the earlier category.
How to Play it
The game is played on a large 6×6 playing field with a whopping 46566 ways to win, thanks to Blueprint’s Megaways system. Gamblers can only adjust the wager, as paylines cannot be turned on or off. The user interface is very minimalistic – it’s clearly shared between the desktop and mobile versions, as it offers large buttons on each side of the screen, which isn’t bad if you have a mouse, but it’s hardly the best UI either.
Gamblers can bet between $0.20 up to $150 per spin, which offers a wide range for players, one that should please casual players who can’t afford to bet much per spin, and high rollers who want to bet large amounts of cash and risk it all for the chance of a huge jackpot win. Players have access to an Autoplay feature, which allows gamblers to set the number of spins, as well as a loss limit, and a single win threshold.
The background image is that of a primal land, long before any humans have ever inhabited it, with large mountains piercing the skies and a thickly forested area in which the animals live. You can see the vines moving, being blown by the wind, and the woolly mammoth also shifts around in place when it’s on the playing field, regardless if a winning combination is up or not.

Special Features
There’s a single special feature available to gamblers, which are the free spins. Said free spins are activated when three, four, five or six Scatter symbols will activate the feature, rewarding ten, fifteen, twenty or thirty free spins, respectively. The bonus feature also has Wild multipliers, which are decided at the beginning of free spins. Ten free spins can only have 2x or 3x multipliers, but that increases up to 6x multipliers for the thirty free spins.
On top of that, Wilds have multipliers of their own, and they appear on reels two, three, four, five and six. These count in addition to the free spins multipliers, which can create some amazing wins under the right circumstances.
Maximum Payouts
Gamblers can win a maximum of 10,000x of their total stake for –each- free spin under the right circumstances, all thanks to the multipliers. The game’s high volatility means such amazing jackpots are possible, but only after you’ve spent a whole lot of time hurting your wallet getting to the big wins. The RTP for Primal Megaways is 96.76%, which is above average for video slots.
Summary
We have to admit, the idea of a prehistoric game wasn’t something we expected to like, but Blueprint Gaming’s release blew us out of the water. The winning potential and gorgeous graphics are something we’d love to see more of going forward.
