We have to admit, we’re big fans of titles that try something different. Even something as small as changing the reel size or amount of paylines can have an impact on how a slot will play – so if you do something drastic, like, say, remove all paytables and reels to begin with, you get something completely different than usual.
Max Quest: Wrath of Ra is Betsoft’s latest release, set in an unexplored temple for Egyptian deities, who seem to have brought their ancient curses to life, animating scarabs and shambling horrors to wander the area.
Players must buy as many bullets as they can, and enter one of these temples ready to start firing at these cursed creatures. Along the way, you may unlock additional weapons that allow you to more easily kill the monsters. You have four different scarabs, four different mummies and two Bataanta’s. A destroyed enemy may also return as a mummy or scarab lit on fire.

Betsoft is an English software developer, founded in 1999. While it never quite got as far as NetEnt and Microgaming, they’re still a recognisable brand. One of the first developers to use 3D animation technology in the design of their slot machines, the company has always been at the forefront of innovation, both visually and gameplay wise.
In 2018 alone, the company has won Best Slot Provider in the Starlet awards, and Best Gaming Casino Supplier of the Year at the Malta iGaming Excellence Awards. How to Play it
Write in your username, select your wager – how many bullets you buy and how much they’re worth. Once that’s done, you pick a room, which can be inhabited by six people at once, and you start blasting at zombies and scarabs with your pistol. Of course, this being a luck based game, your shots only have a chance of killing an enemy, and once they do, each enemy can rewards seven different types of prizes.
Bullets can cost between $0.01 up to $0.25, and you can buy as few as 500 and as many as 1,000,000 bullets, which means your minimum bet is $5, and the maximum bet is $12,500, which is a huge betting range – though we’re not sure if there’s anyone who’d bet that much for a single round! Once you’re inside, you simply aim with your mouse cursor, spam click the enemies, and hope you get lucky.
Honestly, the graphics are top notch, we have to admit. The animations on all the enemies are awesome, and we quite like art style they have going on. We were also pleased to find mobile devices were able to keep up without any hitches, despite the large number of enemies on the screen.

Special Features
Players have access to weapons other than the pistol – they can use shotguns, grenades, machine guns, lasers and plasma rifles. These weapons have a greater chance of killing the enemy, and can even damage multiple of them at once. They can appear randomly when an enemy is destroyed, or can also be purchased from weapon chests from within the game itself.
As we already mentioned, the title is multiplayer – you can share a room with five other people. This means you kill more mummies and scarabs, which, in turn, brings forward the two special features associated with them. The first is relatively straight forward. Each enemy you kill has a chance to be set on fire and come back – rewarding extra cash prizes. These enemies, however, are much tougher to kill, and you’ll have to kill them quickly.
The second bonus is a Rising Gods feature, in which Anubis, Ra or Osiris can clear the playing field and fight against the explorers. Each shot fired against the Gods has a chance of rewarding a cash prize, and you get more prizes the more the god is damaged. Once it’s defeated, you’re rewarded with cash, XP and treasure winnings, which is distributed based on player contribution.
Maximum Payouts
Players who want to maximise their profits will try and hunt for the red enemies and the God events. It’s more likely to trigger both with fellow players, so teaming up is clearly the intended experience here. That said, you also gain experience, and that experience then pushes you up or down on the leaderboard, with those among the highest positions receiving prizes as well.
Summary
Betsoft clearly worked a lot on this title, and tried to draw plenty of attention towards it, and honestly, it clearly seems to have worked. It blends gambling and video games into an odd mix that’s neither here nor there, but it shows plenty of promise.
