If you have ever tried your hand at Microgaming’s Jurassic Park slot, you may be a little underwhelmed with what Ash Gaming have managed to conjure up here.
However, if you haven’t played the aforementioned Hollywood film themed game, or you aren’t that big on graphics, then Ash’s new Jurassic Island video slot might be right up your alley.
Jurassic Island is of course themed on a lost island, containing dinosaurs, giant apes, killer plants and more. It has nicked elements of King Kong, and Journey to the Center of the Earth in this regard.
You will also notice the very Jurassic Park-like dinosaurs on the reels, including over-the-top velociraptors, which are in no way realistic given their historically small size in reality. Ignoring that, Jurassic Island is a slot which has relatively decent special features, but a poorly constructed theme.
You get the impression that Ash Gaming wanted to feed of Jurassic World’s success, but not really show that. In terms of structure, it is very similar to the other Ash Gaming/Playtech released slots, although as we’ve said, the special features certainly showcase new stuff from this smaller-scale developer.
How to play it
Jurassic Island contains an absolutely horrific wagering menu. In this day and age, we expect to see plenty of thematic wagering menus, camouflaged buttons and the like. There’s none of that here. What you get is a big, nasty looking set of buttons which actually don’t allow you to do that much.
Your wagers on this 5-reel, 25-line video slot will range from $0.25 per spin, up to $125 per spin in total. There are no surprises there.
How much can you win?
Everybody loves a big win. In Jurassic Island, the non-progressive jackpot is fixed at around 1,000 coins. That’s not too bad for any Ash Gaming/Playtech partnership developed slot. In order to bag it, you will need to line up 5 wild symbols on a payline. Again, there is nothing terribly new or different about that requirement.
Play For Real Money Jurassic Island Slot With These Bonuses:
Wild symbols: The exaggerated Velociraptors appear as wild symbols in the slot. As we’ve already mentioned, these are the best paying symbols in the game. If you are able to pocket them, you will see that they can replace all other symbols in the slot, barring scatter icons.
They are also capable of expanding, though, on the second, third, and fourth reels. Wild raptors can only expand when they form a part of a winning combination.
Scatter symbols: Scatters appear as the hunter, and these symbols can trigger one of four bonuses if they are landed on the reels 3, 4 or 5 times in total. Given the choice between the bonuses, might we recommend you opt for the free spins features?
Free spins bonus: Three of the four bonuses available in this slot are free games features. The first of these bonuses (Multiplier) can offer you between 10 and 30 free spins, with multipliers worth 3x tripling your wins. The second feature (Carnivore) offers between 10 and 30 free spins with only the high paying symbols present on the reels.
The final feature (Raptor) promises between 16 and 40 free games with expanding wilds capable of appearing on all reels during the feature. Each free spin bonus round has its own variance, so makes sure you try them out to see which one is best suited to your needs. In the order mentioned above, they run from high to medium, to low variance.
Hot Shot bonus: Should none of the free spin features do it for you, you can always opt to use the Hot Shot bonus instead. The simple shoot and win feature can see dinosaurs walking across a range. Use your gun to shoot them dead to win between 1x and 180x your total bet.
You can only win 180x your total bet by shooting dead white-coloured dinos. Yes, this really is a charming little special feature.
Overall experience and final thoughts
Jurassic Island shouldn’t be slated for being a direct Jurassic Park rip-off. Look, we all know that this is what Ash Gaming has been going for, but to their credit they have done a stellar job in making this slot’s special features stand out from other rivals’ similarly themed games.
They have done an okay job on the graphics, and theme isn’t air-tight. The wagering menu bar is also abysmal. Most dinosaur themed slots will be compared to Jurassic Park, though, so this theme is a very tough nut to crack. There is still excitement, riches, and entertainment to be had from this dinosaur themed video slot, though.
