Eye of the Dragon Slot Review & Free Play

Theme of the Game

Although the name of the slot will probably associate you with the tired old Asian-themed slots, Eye of the Dragon is actually a fantasy saga about the medieval apex predator and brave Dragon hunters who are on the quest of finding the beast – or, that’s least what one will gather from the symbols and the reel background.

Dragon is obviously the star of the show, especially the Eye icon, which acts both as the Wild and the Scatter; the highest value icon is the Redhead armed with the bow and arrow, followed by the Warrior with the sword.

On their epic journey to slay the vicious Dragon, are heroes are accompanied by the White Tiger and White Horse spirit animals, while the symbols with the lowest value are the traditional card ranking icons: A, K, Q, J, and 10.

Developer

Novomatic is a veteran in the field of the gaming industry, established in 1980, with headquarters in Gumpoldskirchen.

Today, the company has approximately 30,000 employees, with offices in more than 50 locations and over 230,000 gaming terminals across the world. Their products include Slots, Electronic Table Games, Linked and Standalone Progressive Jackpots, Casino Management Systems, Lottery solutions, etc.

In July 2018, the Novomatic became the first non-Austrian company since 1994 to receive WKO Export Prize and some of the most popular games signed by this developer include Dancing Dragon, Black Jaguar, Blue Moon, Sticky Frog…

How to Play It

Eye of the Dragon is played on 10 adjustable paylines and 5×3 reel structure. Players can select the number of lines using the relevant tab at the bottom of the gaming screen and the betways can be activated in groups of 3, 5, 7, and 10 – a single line can also be selected.

The bet size ranges from $0.1 to $5.00 per line, which means that the maximum amount one can wager is $50 per spin. Medium and high-value icons become payable in combinations of two from left to right; Scatters are the only icons that pay both ways when at least three of these symbols land on connecting reels.

The low-value icons will also generate payments in groups of 3. Should you like to take a break from all the spinning, Auto Play option is available and an uninterrupted auto spin session will run until you manually turn off the feature.

Special Features

Novomatic is not very elaborate when it comes to bonuses and the only feature that the players can trigger are Free Spins with a Special Expanding Symbol.

The extra spins are triggered with the combination of 3 + Scatter icons and any symbol can become the expanding Wild. While the feature is in progress, the icon selected as the Expanding Wild will spread across three positions on the landing reel.

If another triggering combination is formed during the feature, an extra session of Free Spins will be awarded, but this time, an Expanding Wild icon will not be added to the bonus rounds.

Maximum Payouts

Eye of the Dragon is expected to produce 96.21% RTP and the volatility is somewhere between medium and high.

The Redhead is the symbol with the highest payout potential and 5 of those on the reels will increase your stake by x500 on the maximum bet. The Warrior pays less – x200 on a $5 line bet.

Unfortunately, there are no multipliers or cash prizes that can be randomly unlocked, so pressing the bets is advisable if you are aiming at a higher profit – if you are on a strict budget, remember that the game has a fluctuating volatility, so some caution is in order.

Summary

Eye of the Dragon is a decent release with truly capturing visual features, but somehow it lacks that certain something that makes a slot iconic.

The absence of bonus features and the game’s high volatility are likely to cut down the play time, partly because it can be difficult to stay engaged with just the Free Spins breaking the monotony of the game and partly because there is a danger of drying out the budget.

To summarise, Eye of the Dragon is one of those slots that look good in theory, but somehow don’t really work in real life, even though it does not have any major flaws.
