Betting

To kick off, players will need to place a wager in the relevant betting circle in front of them. The bet must meet the minimum requirements of the table, but in Casino War, there is generally a pretty broad wagering range for you to enjoy.

How to play Casino War

Most Casino War games are played with six decks of cards. The value of the cards follow those in a traditional poker game. Meaning that Aces are always high. If you don’t know the order by now, it is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace.

Once the bet has been made, the player will get one card, and the dealer will take one card. The player and dealer’s cards will be compared against one another. Should the player’s card be considered of a higher value than the dealer’s card, they will win. That is it! That is all there is to it.

Unless there is a tie, of course.

Going to war

Should the dealer and the player both have a card of the same value, then the player must choose from two options. On the one hand, they can opt to surrender. If they do this, they will lose only half of their bet. Alternatively, they could decide to “got to war”.

If the player chooses to go to war, they must raise their bet. The raised bet must be equal to the original bet. The dealer then deals another card to both themselves and the player. If the player’s second card trumps the dealer’s in value, the player will win. If the dealer’s second card is better, the player loses.

Some land-based casinos will actually offer bonus bets for Casino War. You could bet for instance, that both of the hands will be tied. If this does happen, the player will win a bonus bet. This offering is rare, though.

House Edge

The house edge in Casino War varies depending on how many decks are used in the shoe. If only a single deck is used, the house edge is fixed at 2.42%, with a 35.29% probability of the match being tied. However, if the Casino War game uses eight decks of cards, the house edge rises to 2.90%. The chance of the hand being a tie, though, decreases dramatically to 17.83%. As you can imagine then, there is a pattern to the house edge in Casino War. The more decks that are used in a shoe, the higher the house edge. However, the more decks of cards are used, the lesser chance there is of a tie occurring.

Pay-outs

If the player’s card outranks the dealers, then they will pick up an even money win on their card. This of course, pays out at 1:1. If the dealer wins, then obviously, the player wins nothing and they lose their original bet.

Should the player declare war and lose, then they will lose both their original bet, and their raised bet. If the player declares war and successfully beats the dealer, then they pocket even money on their raised bet, whilst their original bet is pushed, and returned to them.
